In preparation for a potential public listing by the close of 2026, OpenAI dedicated a significant portion of the previous year to ensuring it had substantial computational resources available to underpin both its current products and anticipated expansion.
Under the terms agreed with NVIDIA, all funds procured by OpenAI will be allocated to purchasing processors from the company to deploy additional computing capabilities.
Bloomberg reported in February 2026 that major technology corporations had announced unprecedented investments directed towards the artificial intelligence sector. Specifically, the combined expenditures from Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta (which is recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia) are projected to reach up to $650 billion. According to Bloomberg figures, these investments will set a record for the capital expenditure of any single corporation over the last decade.
Earlier in February 2026, two entities owned by businessman Elon Musk, SpaceX and xAI, made plans for a merger, which would result in a combined valuation of $1.25 trillion. Musk has proposed conducting SpaceX’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in June, anticipating the venture could raise up to $50 billion at an estimated valuation of around $1.5 trillion, potentially making it the largest IPO ever recorded.
