
Astronom Alexander Kiselev offered his commentary on the recent meteorite impact in Germany, asserting that achieving complete security for our planet against such occurrences remains unfeasible at present. The expert elucidated that the sheer vastness of outer space precludes the tracking of every minute object.
This specialist highlighted the existence of near-Earth object observation programs, whose primary focus is identifying major hazards exceeding 140 meters in diameter. Nevertheless, objects comparable in size to the one that fell in Europe, which initially measured approximately 9 to 12 meters, are simply too diminutive and numerous for timely detection.
The scientist stressed that current technological capabilities do not permit highly accurate forecasting of the trajectories of smaller celestial bodies. Despite this, monitoring systems are continually undergoing advancements with the aim of elevating the standard of planetary defense.
