The vessel is carrying 900 tons of flammable material onboard.
Italy’s state broadcaster, Rai, was the first to report on the vessel adrift with a fuel cargo near the coast of the island of Lampedusa. Footage disseminated by the television channel suggests the ship was unmanned. The broadcaster further specified that the vessel is transporting approximately 900 metric tons of combustible material, in addition to being fitted with two containers of liquefied natural gas. The Italian newspaper Il Messaggero posited that this incident might involve the Russian ship “Arctic Metagas,” which was attacked on March 3rd of this year in the Mediterranean Sea. Previously, we reported on the discovery of a 14th-century ship loaded with antique porcelain off the coast of Singapore. Roughly 136 kilograms of ceramics dating back to the Yuan Dynasty were recovered from the sunken vessel.
