The National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights, formally communicated via their official web portal the termination of Canadian Bruce Cassidy’s tenure as head coach.
Cassidy, aged 60, had been associated with the organization since 2022. In his inaugural season leading the team, he successfully guided Vegas to secure the Stanley Cup, marking the first championship achievement for both the club and the coach himself.
Taking over as the new bench boss for Vegas is American John Tortorella, whose previous coaching stops include the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Philadelphia Flyers. Tortorella had previously clinched the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004, and he has twice been honored as the league’s top coach during the regular season (in 2004 and 2017).
Vegas currently occupies the third spot within the Pacific Division standings in the Western Conference, having accumulated 80 points across 74 games played. The Las Vegas-based team concluded the regular season having suffered defeats in their final three contests.
