Travel can boost productivity, decrease stress levels, and enhance cardiovascular health, according to the Texas A\&M University (TAMU) website.
“When we travel, our bonds with others become stronger, and we gain in terms of education and overall well-being,” commented Professor James Petrick.
For this study, researchers conducted an experiment involving 20 students during a cruise. Participants utilized smartwatches equipped with a custom-designed health monitoring application, and they also maintained journals to log their activities. Petrick pointed out that the data collected from the watch’s accelerometer and gyroscope enabled comparisons between movement patterns and cardiovascular performance metrics.
“What we discovered is that traveling resembles the training regimen of a dedicated athlete: you engage in intense workouts in short bursts, allow your heart some recovery time, engage in more short segments, and then rest again. Vacation yields a similar impact. Our hearts respond to exciting and novel experiences, and subsequently recover when we begin to unwind and calm down. This is the mechanism by which holidays strengthen our hearts,” the professor stated.
Furthermore, the research indicated that longer vacations offer greater benefits compared to brief excursions.
Petrick voiced his aspiration that forthcoming investigations will help determine the ideal duration for time off.
