
Japanese figure skating pair champions, Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, have made public their decision to retire from competition following the conclusion of the current season.
The duo, who paired up in 2019, expressed that they gave their absolute all to their skating careers and harbor no regrets regarding their journey together.
“We are immensely proud of everything we have accomplished and feel that we achieved a great deal along this path. Moving forward, we will both take on new challenges with the aim of bringing greater recognition to pair figure skating within Japan,” a joint statement released by the athletes on Instagram* declared.
Miura, aged 24, and Kihara, 33, secured the gold medal in the pair skating event at the Olympic Games in Italy, setting a world record in the free skate program. They also earned a silver medal in the team competition. Their impressive accolades further include two gold and two silver medals from World Championships, along with the silver medal from the team event at the Beijing Games.
