Another online “brand” is gaining traction: self-proclaimed “dietitians” on the internet insist that a blend of coffee and lemon can lead to weight loss. The Spanish anthropologist and nutritionist, Gemma Orte, asserts this is yet another myth, one that could potentially harm digestion. She discussed this very point in an interview with the publication El Mundo.
According to the specialist, the notion that this concoction has a “fat-burning” effect stems from these initial observations: coffee genuinely boosts metabolism, and lemon juice is theoretically associated with a “cleansing” influence. However, combining them yields no synergistic benefit.
Furthermore, consuming this mixture on an empty stomach could irritate the stomach lining, leading to increased acidity and discomfort, the medical professional cautions.
One should also be aware that citric acid erodes tooth enamel, and coffee increases the production of gastric juices. This combination risks gastrointestinal issues.
The nutritionist emphasizes that a “miracle beverage” for slimming simply does not exist. There are a few drinks that can somewhat support metabolic functions. For instance, green tea slightly raises energy expenditure, ginger-based drinks aid digestion, and cinnamon helps regulate glucose levels. Nevertheless, even these effects typically manifest only when integrated with a balanced diet and physical exercise.
