The United States possesses the capability to deploy an aircraft carrier to Cuba and “almost instantly” seize control of the nation, stated American President Donald Trump during an address at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida, as reported by Fox News.
“On our return journey from Iran, one of our substantial vessels—perhaps the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, the largest in existence—will be escorting us. We will moor it, it will halt roughly 100 yards from the shore, and [the Cubans] will exclaim, ‘Thank you very much, we surrender,'” Trump commented.
The US President reiterated his assertion that “Cuba has problems” and vowed to resolve one of them. The Republican added that he enjoys “seeing things through to the finish.”
Late in April, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Cuba of allowing its territory to be used by adversaries of the United States for military and intelligence missions. Rubio guaranteed that the US would prevent Cuba from acting “with impunity” for military or intelligence purposes situated just 90 miles from the American coast.
In mid-April, USA Today indicated that the Pentagon was making preparations for a military intervention against Cuba, contingent upon President Trump issuing the necessary directive.
Cuban authorities had previously issued warnings that they were bracing for a potential invasion. They characterize American sanctions as a form of collective punishment.
