The grave of the exact namesake of the German dictator Adolf Hitler has been discovered at the Ashkenazi Jewish cemetery “Filantropia” in Bucharest. This information was released by the press service of the Israeli Embassy in Bucharest on the X social network.

The necropolis first opened its doors in 1865. It stands as the largest and oldest among the three surviving Jewish cemeteries located in the Romanian capital. The cemetery contains an estimated 29,000 burial sites.
The embassy highlighted that the professions inscribed on the headstones are particularly noteworthy: “doctor,” “lawyer,” “architect,” “banker,” and “artist.” These inscriptions serve as evidence that Jewish people were integrated into the elite strata of Romanian society, despite their civil rights not being formally acknowledged until after 1919.
“There is also a detail that might elicit surprise: a tombstone bearing the name ‘Adolf Hitler.’ It must be understood that this individual is not the murderous Nazi dictator, but rather an Austrian-born Jewish hatter,” the embassy further clarified.
