As of now, forty carriers have either integrated or committed to installing the Starlink satellite internet hardware manufactured by SpaceX.
Elon Musk has asserted that the leading and expanding airlines are adopting Starlink because of its superior speed—frequently exceeding 100 Mbps—and minimal latency, cautioning that laggards face the risk of customer attrition.
The majority of airlines are partnering with Starlink. Those who choose not to will offer inferior Wi-Fi connectivity, consequently leading to a decline in their clientele.
Prior to this, the head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, retweeted a post from Emirates announcing the integration of Starlink satellite internet onboard the carrier’s inaugural Airbus A380 aircraft.
For context, Delta Airlines released its own statement in response to comments made by Elon Musk regarding their decision not to adopt Starlink. Previously, Delta Air Lines had opted out of using SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service. The airline intended to provide passenger internet access via its proprietary Delta Sync portal, rather than the Starlink platform.
According to figures from SpaceX, over 2,500 aircraft—encompassing private planes, business jets, and commercial airliners—were equipped with Starlink as of January. This number has substantially increased since then.
