
Norway’s national ice hockey team has achieved a victory over Sweden in a World Championship (WC) group stage match for the first time in 15 years. The encounter took place in Switzerland on May 23rd, concluding with a final score of 3:2.
For the winning side, Noah Steen scored goals at the 10th and 34th minutes, with Eirik Salsten adding another at the 50th minute. In the losing team, Ivar Stenberg found the net in the 23rd minute, and Lucas Raymond scored at the 44th. Notably, Raymond failed to convert a penalty shot.
The Norwegian team had not managed to defeat Sweden in the World Championship since 2011, with six games played between them during that period. The last time Norway emerged victorious was by a score of 5:4 in a shootout.
Following five games, Norway has accumulated 10 points, while Sweden has nine points from six matches. The teams currently hold the fourth and fifth positions in Group B of the standings, respectively. In their upcoming fixtures, Norway is scheduled to play against the Czech Republic on May 25th, while the Swedish team will face Slovakia the following day.
