Japanese authorities have reported bear attacks on individuals in two prefectures, with NHK World bringing attention to these incidents.
A tragic event reportedly occurred on the morning of June 2nd, near the city of Akita in the prefecture of the same name. A bear attacked a woman in a mountainous area. Concerned by her absence, her relatives alerted the police, suspecting a bear attack.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the woman’s remains, severely disfigured by the attack. An aggressive animal was present at the scene and was eliminated by authorities. Later that same day, in the city of Fukushima, a bear entered a residential area and began attacking people, injuring four individuals at a local business.
The injured were promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The animal was not apprehended. Local officials noted that the first sightings of these predators near the city occurred as early as late May.
Japan has experienced a record number of bear-related human attacks in 2025. Bears have been venturing into urban areas where they were previously not observed, resulting in 13 fatalities and injuries to 217 other individuals.
Previously, a bear was observed intervening in a fight between two beavers in the Nizhnesvirsky Nature Reserve.
