Anthropic’s technical staff have journeyed to Washington D.C. to confer with White House officials, aiming to resolve a contentious issue that resulted in the deactivation of the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence models.
Since the Trump administration’s initial contact last Friday, Anthropic’s tech personnel have engaged in virtual meetings with White House representatives. A face-to-face encounter is now anticipated.
Previously, the Trump administration had mandated that Anthropic restrict access to its latest Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for all non-U.S. citizens, whether they were physically within the U.S. or abroad. In response, Anthropic stated it would implement a worldwide access ban for these models.
The San Francisco-based AI startup, which has been discreetly pursuing an initial public offering in the U.S., had previously voiced concerns about potential breaches of its Mythos model, opting against widespread release.
The specific factors precipitating the shutdown are coming to light retrospectively. It appears that Amazon was among the entities that alerted the White House to alleged potential vulnerabilities within Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models.
