Frequent neck and back pain. Maintaining a posture with the head tilted towards a smartphone for extended periods results in what is known as “text neck.” This position places undue stress on the spine, contributing to muscle strain, postural issues, and discomfort.
Dry eye syndrome. Prolonged screen gazing leads to a reduced blink rate, causing the eye’s surface to become dry. This can manifest as unpleasant sensations such as burning, stinging, irritation, and a gritty feeling in the eyes.
Sleep disturbances. The blue light emitted by screens can suppress melatonin production, the hormone that prepares the body for sleep. Consequently, using a phone in the evening may lead to difficulties falling asleep and result in less restorative sleep.
Digital anxiety. The constant influx of notifications, news, and information keeps the brain in a state of perpetual stress. This can heighten anxiety levels, induce fatigue, and impair concentration.
Weight gain. Spending extended periods in front of screens is often associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Furthermore, eating while watching videos or reading news makes it challenging to monitor satiety signals, frequently leading to overconsumption of food.
To mitigate the impact of gadgets on your body, it’s sufficient to follow a few straightforward guidelines: disable unnecessary notifications, refrain from using your phone for at least an hour before bedtime, take short breaks throughout the day, and perform regular eye exercises. Adopting these habits can help preserve your health and make the use of technology safer.
