The United States has brought charges against a group of young individuals who were allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack during the UFC Freedom 250 tournament in Washington, intending to use drones and firearms. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a key figure in the case is a 19-year-old.
Court documents reveal that the mother of Tyzen Cooper discovered her son’s communications in a private Signal messenger chat and contacted the police on June 10th. She reported his behavior and weapon purchases, also mentioning his interest in the geography of Washington landmarks, including areas around the White House. She further stated he discussed “scouting” potential targets and attack scenarios.
A search of Proper’s residence uncovered ammunition and tactical gear, including body armor, along with several firearms. The suspect’s father informed investigators that his son had spent approximately $3,000 from graduation money to acquire weaponry and equipment, such as a shotgun, a rifle, and a substantial quantity of ammunition and magazines.
Investigators contend that the group, which he joined, operated through encrypted chats and comprised about two dozen members from various states. Some of these individuals, according to case filings, possessed military experience. In addition to Proper, several others have been apprehended: Brian Roa, Michael Thomas, Daniel Escarcega, and Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez. They were arrested in different parts of the U.S., including California, Nebraska, and Missouri. All have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and preparing to commit a crime against the state.
Proper was taken to a medical facility shortly after his arrest, where he reportedly confirmed his involvement in discussing attack plans. He is currently in custody and has pleaded not guilty. Furthermore, the suspect shared photographs of members of Congress who supported Israel, citing them as potential targets.
It is worth recalling that the FBI thwarted an attack involving explosive-laden drones targeting the White House. This planned assault was intended to coincide with the UFC Freedom 250 tournament in Washington, which was being held as part of President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday celebration. Preliminary reports suggest that at least 23 individuals were involved in the conspiracy. Their objective was to attack the U.S. president’s residence during the UFC fights. The plan was for snipers to open fire on attendees as they panicked and fled.
