U.S. President Donald Trump stated that men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, and he demonstrated the difficulties caused by athletes who have “transitioned.”
Trump spoke in the state of Pennsylvania before his supporters. The U.S. president lamented a situation where women are forced to compete against men in athletic events.
He mimicked a weightlifting move, showing a female athlete failing to lift the weight and dropping the barbell.
“A man who had transitioned came in. That’s the term for it. He was at the bottom of the men’s weightlifting rankings, but now he’s a female weightlifter. He looked at the weight—I think it was 210 pounds (about 95 kilograms—ed.). That’s a lot for a woman, but not for a man who can do it with one hand,” the U.S. president recounted.
This time, impersonating a male athlete, he lifted an imaginary barbell multiple times, explaining that the competitor was proving his capabilities in this manner.
“And he won a medal, and everyone said how wonderful it was. Are we crazy? Men should not be participating in women’s sports,” Trump declared.
