Iberian orcas off the coast of Gibraltar have attacked a yacht and damaged its steering system, according to Daily Mail.
The incident occurred while the vessel was making its way from the Bahamas to Spain. Those aboard reported that the orcas shadowed the yacht for roughly three hours, and became aggressive after its engine was started. During the assault, one of the whales caused damage to the rudder, leaving the boat without control.
A passenger on the yacht, Norwegian national Joakim Sommer, stated that the animals effectively disabled the vessel. He noted that the crew chose not to attempt to scare off the orcas, out of concern that it might cause additional harm to the boat.
