Portugal’s forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, set a historic World Cup record on July 2 by becoming the oldest footballer ever to feature in a knockout match of the tournament.
The athlete started for his national team against Croatia at the age of 41 years and 147 days. The Portuguese star surpassed the milestone set by former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who played in the third-place match at the 1990 World Cup when he was 40 years and 292 days old.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a five-time Champions League winner, a European champion, and a two-time Nations League champion. The forward also holds world records for the most goals scored in international matches, at European Championships, in the Champions League, and at Club World Cups.
