Authorities have warned residents about a new heatwave and urged them to take precautionary measures.
Italy’s Ministry of Health has declared a red, the highest level of weather danger, in seven cities across the country, including Rome. This is due to a fresh wave of scorching heat brought on by an African anticyclone.
According to the agency, the warning has been in effect in Florence and Perugia since Monday. In the coming days, forecasters predict temperatures of 39–41°C in central and southern regions of Italy, as well as on the island of Sardinia. In Rome, the air is expected to reach 38°C, while in Florence it will climb to 39°C.
Given the extreme heat, experts recommend that residents, especially children and the elderly, stay indoors whenever possible, drink plenty of water, and avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours of the day. Meteorologists note that the current heatwave is linked to the African anticyclone, which has fully covered the Apennine Peninsula.
