The American Diabetes Association (ADA) released updated «Standards of Care in Diabetes—2026», incorporating the latest research to guide clinical practice. Key updates include a stronger recommendation for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) — it is now advised to start CGM at diabetes onset and continue it for anyone on insulin therapy, noninsulin drugs that risk hypoglycemia, or when CGM helps improve management. The guidelines also expanded guidance on using obesity pharmacotherapy in people with diabetes, added new algorithms for managing hyperglycemia in patients undergoing cancer treatment or organ transplantation, and provided updated recommendations for older adults, including CGM use and geriatric syndromes. Additionally, the standards emphasize a connected approach to protecting the heart, kidneys, liver, eyes, nerves, and feet through earlier screening and expanded use of newer diabetes medications.
