On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia. According to official reports, 132 people died and around 570 were injured. The epicenter was near the municipality of San José del Palmar in the Chocó department. The tremor was felt across much of the country and in neighboring nations. Authorities declared a national disaster. The event caused extensive infrastructure damage: more than 1,500 residential buildings were damaged (37 completely destroyed), 18 health centers, 52 schools, and seven airports were affected. A red alert was issued in 32 cities.
