The Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who won the New York City mayoral election, has stated that the city’s police force will not cooperate with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “Under me, the New York police will continue not to assist ICE when [their agents] seek to intimidate residents across all five boroughs of New York,” he told Spectrum News. The New York City mayoral election took place on November 4. Mamdani, who emerged victorious, promised his supporters on the same day that under his tenure, the metropolis “will remain a city of immigrants, built by immigrants, led by immigrants, and now governed by an immigrant.” Mamdani also announced that he will be sworn in as the Mayor of New York on January 1 of the coming year. The city is currently led by Eric Adams, who initially aimed for re-election as an independent candidate but announced his withdrawal from the race in September. Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that approximately 25 million people had entered the country illegally before he took office. The American leader has repeatedly advocated for stricter immigration policies and noted his intention to ensure the execution of the largest deportation operation of illegal immigrants in American history.
