A man in the US has been sentenced to six months in jail for touching a woman’s hair on the Washington Metro. The court in the District of Columbia announced the sentence.
According to RIA Novosti, Brian Betancourt was sentenced to 180 days in prison and a $50 fine.
In late February, while riding a subway train, Betancourt recorded a video of himself touching a female passenger’s hair. He subsequently posted the footage on social media. He was found guilty.
The defendant had spent 126 days in custody prior to the trial; this time was credited against his sentence, leaving him with 54 days left to serve.
A fine imposed on a Moscow woman for filming a fetishist who harassed her is set to be annulled. A stranger harassed the young woman on a bus: he lay down near her feet and began touching and licking her shoes. She recorded the incident and posted the video online.
The man sued for compensation for “deep emotional distress” and was awarded 10,000 rubles plus legal costs. The woman filed a police report and intends to appeal the decision. According to a source, the initial ruling will likely be overturned once administrative or criminal proceedings are initiated against the fetishist. The court will also take into account the existence of other victims of his actions, as there are quite a few such women.
