
A powerful earthquake struck southern Peru on August 21. Initial reports indicated a magnitude of 7.2, though the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and the US Geological Survey (USGS) later revised the estimate to 6.7. The epicenter was located approximately 35 kilometers north of the town of Coracora. The tremor was felt across several regions, including the capital, Lima. According to authorities, two people sustained injuries during evacuation efforts in Coracora. Additionally, damage was reported: 22 residential homes, six medical facilities, and a school were affected in the Ayacucho and Cusco regions. Landslides also occurred in the area.
