
Hungarian world champion kayaker Gergely Boros has died tragically in an accident.
On August 26, Boros was at a construction site in the city of Paks, where padel tennis courts were being installed at a sports club.
At one point, a metal structure tipped over and pinned him against a wall. The athlete sustained fatal injuries.
Police have opened a criminal investigation into suspected negligent homicide resulting from a violation of professional safety regulations.
Boros was 42 years old. His achievements included a gold medal in the K-4 event at the 2007 World Championships and a victory at the 2004 European Championships.
From 2018 to 2024, he served as the sports director of the Hungarian Canoe Federation. He is survived by his wife and two children.
