Temperatures in Spain rose to 45.7 degrees Celsius on September 3, tying the all-time record for the first month of autumn. The extreme temperature was recorded in the municipality of El Granado in Andalusia.

According to Spain’s state meteorological agency, Aemet, this day also marked the hottest day in the country since the beginning of 2026. The previous September high was recorded ten years ago. In 2016, the municipality of Montoro also reached 45.7 degrees Celsius.
This record continues a string of weather anomalies in the kingdom. The first half of 2026 was the warmest in 65 years. June was the second-warmest month on record, and July was the hottest and driest since 1961.
