Australian Rod Laver, an 11-time Grand Slam champion, congratulated world No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany on his victory at the US Open.
On Sunday, Zverev defeated American Ben Shelton in the US Open final with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 6-2.
“Congratulations to Alexander Zverev on a convincing victory at the US Open. Two Grand Slam titles this year and three consecutive major finals—an incredible season. Ben Shelton did a great job; a fantastic run to the final. This is another big step forward, and there is much more to come,” Laver wrote on social media.
29-year-old Zverev won the second Grand Slam tournament of his career—both trophies were claimed this season. He won Roland Garros in June. 23-year-old Shelton reached a final at this level for the first time.
