Entrepreneur Elon Musk suggested that in as little as 20 years, people might be able to “upload their minds” into robots, effectively transferring consciousness and memories into a non-biological body. He shared this on a podcast with Lex Fridman. He noted that such technology could be a step towards “digital immortality.” Musk linked this idea to his projects – the startup Neuralink, which is developing a brain-computer interface, and the Tesla Optimus robotics program, which is creating human-like robots. According to him, if the process is safe and allows people to preserve memories or enhance abilities, “many will want to do it.” This essentially refers to the possibilities of backing up neural data, merging consciousness with a machine, or fully transferring one’s personality into an artificial body. Musk pointed out that such technologies would allow a person to continue existing after physical death, but emphasized that this is still only a long-term prospect. Experts note that before “mind uploading” is possible, humanity will have to overcome significant scientific and ethical barriers. Scientists still do not fully understand how human consciousness can be translated into a digital form. Furthermore, questions remain open regarding personal rights, the preservation of identity, and the potential risks of mind interference. Despite the specialists’ skepticism, Musk is confident that the development of neurotechnology and robotics is bringing closer the moment when humans will be able to merge with machines.
