Police in Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture have detained a 29-year-old woman suspected of killing her two newborn sons, the Tokyo Reporter writes.
According to investigators, both crimes occurred following home births, separated by an interval of just over a year.
The woman gave birth to her first child at home in June 2025. Investigators believe that shortly after the boy was born, she strangled him and hid his body in a closet. The infant’s remains were later discovered in an irrigation canal by a local worker.
A second, similar incident reportedly took place in July 2026. The woman again gave birth to a boy at home and, investigators believe, killed him shortly after delivery. She allegedly wrapped the child’s body in clothing and hid it in a closet.
During questioning, the suspect largely admitted to the circumstances of the first incident as well as the killing of the second child. However, she stated that due to her poor physical condition following the births, she does not remember certain subsequent events. She has been charged with murder and the concealment of bodies.
