U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed incorporating Venezuela into the United States as the 51st state. Speaking at a campaign rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, he also suggested that the country could elect a governor rather than a president.
Trump stated that relations between Washington and Caracas have improved and expressed confidence that a prosperous future awaits Venezuela. He remarked that the country could one day become part of the United States, and asked the audience whether they supported the idea of turning Venezuela into a state.
Furthermore, Trump mentioned a fuel deal between the two nations, noting that Venezuelan oil would be refined in Texas. The U.S. administration had previously announced agreements concerning Venezuela’s oil fields and U.S. involvement in the management of those assets.
On January 3, the United States conducted a military operation in Venezuela, capturing the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores. They subsequently appeared before a federal court in New York, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. The duties of the head of state in Venezuela have been assumed by Delcy Rodríguez.
