
More than 50% of the kilocalories consumed in the US come from ultra-processed foods (UPFs). Specialists have found that increased consumption of ultra-processed foods is associated with a higher risk of developing prediabetes. As part of the study, scientists monitored a group of 85 people aged 17 to 22 years who were overweight or obese for four years. The authors stated that future studies will need to consider larger groups and track diet in more detail to determine which foods pose the greatest risk.
