
The Russian language has been made a mandatory subject for study in North Korean schools starting from the fourth grade. Aleksandr Kozlov, the Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and co-chair of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK, announced this on November 27th.
“I am aware that the Russian language has been introduced in DPRK schools as a required language for study starting in the 4th grade. Currently, over 3,000 schoolchildren in Russia are studying the Korean language,” TASS quoted him as saying.
Furthermore, he pointed out that Russia anticipates the launch of a Center for Open Education in the Russian Language in the DPRK in 2026, to be based at the Kim Il Sung University of Education, as reported by “Gazeta.Ru.”
