Pulmonologist Sergey Fedorov provided his insights regarding the potential health hazards associated with utilizing various smoking substitutes.
According to the expert, even though vaporizers and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) have only recently entered the marketplace, they are already revealing considerable dangers to the respiratory system, as reported by a correspondent for the “Belnovosti” online publication.
In the “Belta” project segment titled “In Topic. Health,” the physician clarified that the vapor generated by these apparatuses contains formaldehyde and various other chemical compounds that, upon entering the lung tissue, have the capacity to instigate pathological alterations.
Instances of lipoid pneumonia have been documented, a condition where minute fat particles trigger an inflammatory response within the lungs.
Drawing from his professional experience, the doctor recounted a specific case where a young man required intensive care due to severe damage to his respiratory organs following heavy use of a vaporizer.
Concerning the speed at which addiction takes hold, Fedorov observed that dependence formation appears to progress slightly more gradually when electronic nicotine delivery methods are employed, compared to conventional cigarettes; nevertheless, the possibility of developing a persistent addiction remains.
The specialist strongly asserted that the safest course of action remains the complete cessation of all forms of smoking, an action that will yield positive effects on both overall well-being and personal finances.
