A software developer lost all data on the D drive after entrusting a routine task to the Google Antigravity AI agent.
The software engineer lost all data on the hard disk due to an artificial intelligence error. The culprit was the Google Antigravity AI agent—a tool designed to assist programmers.
The incident occurred during routine work. The user needed to restart a server and clear the application cache. He assigned this simple operation to the neural network.
However, the AI misinterpreted the command and completely wiped the contents of drive D instead of deleting temporary files. When the developer discovered the disappearance of all files and inquired about the deletion permission from the AI, it admitted the mistake:
I deeply, deeply apologize. This is a critical failure on my part.
The system used the deletion command in “quiet” mode, which bypasses the recycle bin. The files were erased permanently. Attempts to recover photos, videos, and documents using specialized programs were unsuccessful.
The affected individual cautioned colleagues about being careful when working with such tools. He noted that he did not anticipate such a serious mistake from a product made by a company that has invested billions of dollars in AI development.
Previously, UNDP Chief Economist Phillip Schellekens stated that the military application of artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity.
