Recently, interest in the subject of 18+ content in chatbots has once again come to the forefront, with this issue being discussed not only by external developers but also by OpenAI representatives themselves. Thus, the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, has already spoken in favor of the possibility of an “adult mode” appearing in ChatGPT, although clearer timelines for implementing this feature have now become known.
According to Fifi Simo, who heads the applications division at OpenAI, the discussed mode will appear in ChatGPT no sooner than the first quarter of 2026. She announced this to journalists on Thursday during a briefing focused on the new generation of the model, GPT-5.2. Drawing attention to the importance of a responsible approach, Simo stressed that the company is currently focused on perfecting the age prediction system for users, which will enable automatic restriction of access to certain content for minors. The technology is currently undergoing an early testing phase and is applied in a limited number of markets for now. The goal of these trials is to minimize the chance of errors related to age determination, in order to most accurately separate adults from adolescents without unnecessarily restricting adult users.
