Tests of a robot in China concluded with the developer being struck in the groin. The recording reached the internet and went viral.
Videos from the trials of the new Chinese robot Unitree G1 are being actively discussed on social networks. In the footage, the machine, mimicking human movements, unexpectedly kicked an engineer in the groin. The clip was posted today, December 28th, on the X social network.
During the demonstration, the robot precisely replicated the operator’s actions using motion capture technology. At one point, the developer performed a kick in the air. The robot synchronously repeated it, but due to its positioning, it struck the person standing before it precisely in the groin. The engineer immediately kneeled from the pain, and the machine mechanically copied this posture as well.
Elon Musk left a comment under the recording. The head of Tesla and SpaceX reacted to the incident by posting a “crying with laughter” emoji.
This is not the first instance of issues with Unitree robots. Earlier, in May, another model—Unitree H1—suddenly began flailing its arms during tests, which from the outside appeared like an attempt to attack nearby people.
Musk previously announced Tesla’s ambitious plans to produce up to 5 thousand humanoid Optimus robots by the end of this year.
