Madrid’s “Real” suffered a defeat against “Getafe” in a La Liga fixture, specifically matchday 26 of the Spanish football championship.
The encounter took place in Madrid, concluding with a 1-0 triumph for the visiting side. The solitary goal was netted by Martin Satriano in the 39th minute. In the fifth minute of stoppage time added to the second half, midfielder Franco Mastantuono of the “Royals” was shown a red card. Two minutes later, “Getafe’s” winger, Adrian Liso, was also dismissed following a second caution.
At halftime, “Real’s” supporters booed their team, and according to journalist Guillermo Rai on the social network X, some fans vocalized demands for the resignation of club president Florentino Pérez.
French forward Kylian Mbappé was sidelined for “Real” due to a strained ligament in his left knee. He had previously missed the Champions League playoff second leg against Lisbon’s “Benfica” (2-1), which occurred on February 25th.
This marks only the second occasion in their history that “Real” has lost to “Getafe” on their home ground. The initial time “Getafe” defeated the “Blancos” at the “Santiago Bernabéu” in a Spanish league match was in February 2008. Back then, Michael Laudrup’s squad secured a 1-0 victory, and the current coach of CSKA Moscow, Fabio Celestini, started in that team.
“Getafe” (with 32 points) sits in 11th position in the La Liga standings, while “Real” (with 60 points) remains second, trailing “Barcelona” by a margin of 4 points. Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad has now lost two consecutive league matches. In their next round, “Getafe” will host Seville’s “Betis” on March 8th. “Real” is scheduled to play away against “Celta” from Vigo on March 6th.
