The enhanced edition of the PlayStation 5 has temporarily vanished from the product listings at Sony’s official storefronts across both the United States and the United Kingdom.
The primary catalyst for this surge in consumer interest was the launch of Resident Evil Requiem. Technical analysts suggest that, at present, this particular horror title best showcases the enhanced processing capabilities of the revised hardware and the console’s overall potential.
While the PlayStation 5 Pro initially launched in 2024, gamers were initially skeptical of the new hardware, citing its premium cost and the somewhat controversial performance of the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. This perception shifted dramatically at the beginning of 2026, following Sony’s successful refinement of the upscaler’s algorithms.
Resident Evil Requiem emerged as the inaugural major title to fully leverage the improved PSSR, resulting in marked improvements regarding visual fidelity and frame rate consistency.
Given this intense demand, the product pages for the console on PlayStation Direct sites have been updated to indicate “temporarily out of stock.” Sony has yet to provide an estimated timeline for when fresh inventory will become available. It is widely anticipated that this shortage could persist, as numerous other major AAA titles are slated to integrate support for the new upscaler soon, with the imminent release of Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon—a title expected to be heavily promoted alongside Sony’s upgraded hardware.
It should be noted that unique identifiers (title IDs) for the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto VI blockbuster had previously been documented within the official database of the PlayStation Network (PSN) service.
