
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a statement responding to inquiries regarding potential sanctions against the United States and Israel for conducting military action against Iran.
“The principle of neutrality within the Olympic movement was recently reaffirmed by the IOC Executive Board. Strengthening this stance and ensuring its continued relevance moving forward is a core topic in the discussions currently underway by the dedicated working group,” the organization’s statement read.
On February 28th, the US and Israel initiated military operations targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran. In retaliation, Iran launched counter-strikes against military installations belonging to the United States in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
From March 6th to the 15th, the Winter Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy), a period during which the Olympic Truce, as mandated by an IOC resolution, must be observed.
