An elderly man in Austria faced trial for sexually harassing residents of a nursing home, as reported by the newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
The court in Innsbruck delivered its verdict against the 85-year-old former municipal employee. He was charged with harassing three female residents of the care facility.
All the victims resided in the same institution, and the incidents of assault were uncovered thanks to the observant care staff. The accused had no prior criminal record and initially attributed his actions to “impulses” when questioned by the police, though during the trial, he claimed complete memory loss.
“If the caregivers say so, then I must have done it,” the pensioner added.
His defense lawyer characterized his conduct as “lust in old age,” emphasizing that his client lacked the “typical characteristics of a criminal.” Ultimately, the man received a 10-month suspended sentence and a fine of €1920. He accepted the ruling without objection and is hoping to remain residing in the nursing home.
