Norwegian athlete Tarjei Bø has now formally been awarded the bronze medal from the 2011 Biathlon World Championships. A review of the results from the mass start race held in Khanty-Mansiysk led to his advancement onto the podium.
Initially, Russian Evgeny Ustyugov crossed the finish line in second place, and Italian biathlete Lukas Hofer finished third, with Bø coming in fourth. Subsequently, the Russian competitor’s result was nullified due to an anti-doping rule violation, causing a redistribution of the rankings. The Norwegian’s medals ceremony took place during the World Cup stage at Holmenkollen, after which the athlete presented the medal to his son. Lukas Hofer had previously received his silver medal at the stage in Ruhpolding. Okko provided the broadcast coverage for the event.
Furthermore, updates have emerged regarding Olympic champion Anton Shipulin from the 2014 Sochi Games. Due to Evgeny Ustyugov’s doping transgression, the International Olympic Committee stripped the Russian team of their relay gold medals, awarding them instead to the German squad. Shipulin is now being requested to return his medal, though the process for this restitution is being prolonged.
Moreover, cross-country skier Alexander Bolshunov has stated that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has taken every possible action to prevent his participation in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
