
In the city of Otsuchi, located in Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan, a blaze has razed eight structures, prompting the evacuation of upwards of three thousand residents.
The extent of the wildfire in the northeastern part of Japan has now surpassed 1.1 thousand hectares, according to reports from NHK.
Local governmental sources indicate that an aerial visual assessment determined the total area affected by the fire has reached approximately 1176 hectares, with the confirmed scorched area amounting to roughly 730 hectares.
The fire in Otsuchi has been raging for a fifth consecutive day, and officials note that containing the spread of the flames remains unfeasible at this juncture.
This conflagration has resulted in the destruction of eight buildings, one of which was a residential dwelling. Nevertheless, official tallies confirm that no injuries or fatalities have been recorded.
Due to the persistent menace posed by the expanding fire, evacuation orders have been issued to 3,233 individuals. The flames are encroaching upon sectors where evacuations were not initially anticipated, extending towards the northwestern sector of the municipality.
Approximately 1.3 thousand personnel are engaged in combating the inferno, including firefighters dispatched from other prefectures. Furthermore, aircraft belonging to the Japan Self-Defense Forces and local authorities are being utilized to douse the hotspots by dropping water from above.
