Tesla has unveiled the Basecharger, a 125 kW home charging unit engineered specifically for the sustained replenishment of electric semi-trucks, incorporating the Tesla Semi into its target use case. This unit is designed for scenarios involving extended periods of vehicle inactivity, such as overnight charging or while the truck is stationary for reloading at a depot.
Its defining characteristic is a fully integrated architecture, eliminating the need for a separate cabinet to manage the alternating current to direct current (AC/DC) conversion. This streamlines the mounting process and lessens the demands placed on the existing electrical infrastructure. Furthermore, the inclusion of a 6-meter cable affords flexibility in positioning the charging station across the site.
Up to three Basecharger units can be daisy-chained and connected to a single circuit breaker (rated for a combined capacity of 125 kVA), leading to additional reductions in both setup and operational expenditure.
