
Consuming copious amounts of fluids heightens the likelihood of cardiac rhythm disturbances, and a number of well-liked beverages harbor concealed dangers in the form of massive sugar loads and liquid calories. This insight was shared with NEWS.ru by Irina Lyalina, the acting dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the State University of Enlightenment and a biologist.
According to the expert, the brain does not process liquid calories the same way it does solid food, meaning satiety signals fail to register. Furthermore, excessive water intake flushes out essential electrolytes and places strain on the kidneys.
Lyalina pointed out that bubble tea and smoothies qualify as high-calorie desserts, boasting an energy content comparable to a complete meal. The biologist stressed that sugary drinks trigger a sharp spike in insulin, which, in turn, halts the fat-burning process and encourages fat accumulation, particularly around the midsection.
It is crucial that clean, still water constitutes 70–80% of all fluid intake, Lyalina noted. Hydration should be guided by the sensation of thirst, rather than aiming to meet a specific volume quota.
