The Chinese player, Yan Bingtao, secured a victory over England’s Shaun Murphy, thus becoming a World Snooker Championship winner for the first time in his career at the tournament concluded in Sheffield, Britain.
The final match spanned two days and culminated with the Chinese cueist prevailing by a scoreline of 18-17. At the close of the first day, Yan Bingtao held a lead of 10-7.
Yan Bingtao is 22 years old. He is now the second World Snooker Champion hailing from Asia, following his compatriot Zhao Xintong, who clinched the world title the previous year.
Murphy, aged 43, is himself a former world champion, having won in 2005. This marks the fourth World Championship final loss in the Englishman’s professional history.
The World Championship took place in Sheffield, running from April 18th until May 4th. The tournament’s total prize fund stood at £2.395 million, with the victor taking home £500,000 of that amount.
