Vince Vaughn, Theo James, and Patrick Schwarzenegger are set to star in “The Bookie & The Bruiser,” a film helmed by director and screenwriter S. Craig Zahler, known for “Bone Tomahawk” and “Dragged Across Concrete.”
According to Deadline, the narrative is set in New York City during 1959. The focus is on a thoughtful Jewish man named Rivner (played by James) and a large Italian-American tough guy named Boscolo (Vaughn). After World War II, they return profoundly altered, finding themselves unable to fit back into their former lives. Unwilling to follow orders or adhere to societal norms, they form a partnership as a bookmaker and his muscle, running an illicit gambling operation that proves highly lucrative yet fraught with peril. Their venture thrives until they become entangled in a brutal power struggle between the Mafia and an Irish gang, forcing them into a fight for survival.
Schwarzenegger is cast as the twin brothers, Augie and Bernard. Augie is an unlucky, desperate gambler whose reckless bid to escape overwhelming debt draws the attention of New York’s feuding criminal factions onto Rivner and Boscolo. Bernard, conversely, is a respectable family man whose life is tragically upended by his brother’s deception and the dangerous individuals who come to his doorstep.
