Apple deliberately postponed the launch of the regular iPhone 18 as part of a carefully considered market maneuver. According to Fix Focus Digital, this action is intended to extend the sales window for the iPhone 17 while simultaneously cutting production expenses and enhancing Apple’s competitive standing against rivals running Android.
Fixed Focus Digital asserted that this choice was largely unavoidable due to worldwide supply chain disruptions, and that Apple consciously opted to delay the iPhone 18’s arrival rather than rushing its market debut.
By extending the iPhone 17’s production lifespan and ramping up manufacturing significantly, Apple is gaining extra time to solidify the iPhone 17’s market share in the mainstream price tier before its more budget-friendly successor emerges. It should be recalled that the iPhone 17 series has become Apple’s most successful iPhone line to date.
A source familiar with the company indicated that Apple aims to have ample stock of the iPhone 17 available for the November 11th shopping event in China later this year. This sale, also known as Singles’ Day, represents one of the globe’s largest annual retail events and serves as a critical battleground for smartphone market share within China.
The leaker source characterized this tactic as an “exceptionally clever market calibration mechanism,” suggesting that the iPhone 18’s commercial success stands to be boosted if it enters the market roughly 18 months after the iPhone 17. By then, the outgoing model would have already secured a prolonged dominance in the volume segment.
Fixed Focus Digital characterized this approach as one that concurrently reduces manufacturing overhead while boosting market penetration relative to Android-powered rivals.
