Chinese manufacturer BYD has been designated the most innovative automotive group, achieving a score of 157.2 based on the sheer volume of cutting-edge technologies they have implemented. This figure substantially surpasses the performance of Volkswagen Group, which secured the runner-up position with 143.1 points, and Mercedes-Benz, which landed in third place at 134.2 points. The comprehensive analysis, conducted by Germany’s Center of Automotive Management (CAM), scrutinized innovations across the entire model lineups of these groups, encompassing their luxury offerings. For BYD specifically, the assessment extended to their sub-brands: Denza, YangWang, and Fang Cheng Bao.
Furthermore, BYD cemented its top status within the volume segment as well, garnering 105.5 points. This result decisively outperformed Renault, which scored 59.9 points, and Toyota, achieving 46.1 points. In this particular category, the German researchers evaluated technologies integrated into the mass-market vehicles of the respective brands.
CAM specialists documented that between 2025 and 2026, BYD introduced 55 novel technologies into their vehicles, with 36 of these innovations earmarked for the volume segment. Among the highlighted advancements is an advanced driver assistance system featuring freeway automated driving (NOA), enabling the vehicle to navigate autonomously toward a predetermined destination, requiring the driver only to supervise the operation.
The experts were particularly impressed by the inclusion of sophisticated driver aids even in more entry-level models, such as the Dolphin and Seagull electric hatchbacks, as noted by “Chinese Cars.”
