US carrier T-Mobile has revamped the sign-up process for its T-Satellite service, which leverages SpaceX’s Starlink system for mobile connectivity.
The change means that enrollment can now be completed entirely over the internet, eliminating the need for phone calls to customer service or a trip to a physical retail location. This updated procedure applies to both existing T-Mobile subscribers and customers of rival networks, such as AT&T and Verizon.
During the initial open beta last year, website registration was already available to everyone interested. However, following the official July launch of T-Satellite, the carrier surprisingly removed the online sign-up option for users outside its own network. T-Mobile had previously justified this by stating the need to personally clarify activation procedures and prevent potential user confusion.
The company has now reverted its stance. A T-Mobile spokesperson confirmed that owners of compatible handsets are able once again to activate T-Satellite directly via an online form on the operator’s website. Furthermore, T-Mobile customers now have the choice to enable satellite connectivity through the T-Life app or by upgrading to more expensive plans that already incorporate access to the Starlink satellite network.
