FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed the criticism regarding the high cost of tickets for the 2026 World Cup. He asserted that the pricing is justified, mirroring the conditions of the American market, where the entertainment sector stands as one of the most robust globally.
Infantino pointed out that within the United States, securing admission to even a college sports game often costs upwards of $300, making the market-driven ticket prices entirely reasonable for an event as significant as the World Cup.
Furthermore, Infantino commented on the practice of ticket resale, which is officially permissible in the US. He reasoned that setting initial prices too low would inevitably result in scalpers selling those tickets at markedly inflated rates. The FIFA President advised supporters to disregard exorbitant prices found on secondary markets.
Infantino was quoted by ESPN as saying, “If someone lists resale tickets for the final at $2 million, firstly, that doesn’t mean the tickets are actually worth $2 million, and secondly, it doesn’t mean someone will actually buy them.”
